MediationTrained mediators help parties to achieve mediation in criminal and civil matters and matters of compensations. Mediation is voluntary, free of charge and confidential. Offences committed by persons under the age of 15 can also be subject to mediation. Mediation can be sought by the suspect, the crime victim, police or prosecution authorities or some other authority. If the suspect or crime victim is a minor, his or her parent or guardian or other legal representative also have the right to initiate mediation. In matters concerning a person of age who has been declared incompetent, mediation can also be sought by his or her representative. Only police or prosecution authorities, however, have the right to initiate mediation in cases where a person is suspected of committing a violence offence against his or her spouse, child, parent or other comparable person close to him or her.
