Security clearancesA security clearance is a register data check conducted by an authority which is usually requested in connection with recruitment. Its aim is to prevent offences that might jeopardise the internal security of the state, public finances or a particularly significant private financial interest. A security clearance can also be carried out based on an international obligation. A security clearance may be concise, standard or comprehensive, depending on the significance of the interest to be protected and the task. A security clearance may never be conducted without the written consent of the subject of the clearance. Concise security clearances are within the jurisdiction of the local police, whereas standard and comprehensive security clearances are conducted by the Finnish Security Intelligence Service. Standard security clearances are conducted for companies and authorities, whereas comprehensive ones are done for authorities only. Defence Command Finland is responsible for all security clearances under the jurisdiction of the defence administration. Back | Print page | |
