Firearms permits for associations and foundations

Associations and foundations registered or performing a public function in Finland that on the basis of the purpose of their activities and other factors are suitable for possessing firearms may be granted an acquisition, possession or ammunition permit, a permit for the private manufacturing of firearms or a gas spray permit. An association or foundation may also be approved as a weapons collector. An association or foundation cannot, however, be granted a parallel permit or a private import permit. With the exception of specially dangerous firearms, the permits are granted by the local police within whose jurisdiction the association or foundation is registered, but the storage facilities are approved by the police department for the area in which the facilities themselves are located.

Associations and foundations must appoint a firearms officer approved by the police who is responsible for the firearms. The firearm storage facilities must also be approved by the police.
